Meet the team:
Ralf Starzmann
Today, we would like to introduce you to our Commercial Director Ralf Starzmann. Since the early days of his career, Ralf is fascinated by the idea of harnessing the power of the oceans to generate electricity – and provide reliable, renewable and sustainable energy.
“With the impact on climate change being obvious in recent years, anything that we can do to combat climate change is for the benefit of the generations to come. With almost two decades experience in the marine renewables sector and my global network, I am very excited to make my contribution to SCHOTTEL Marine Technologies’ mission.”
After graduating as a mechanical engineer at the University of Stuttgart in 2007, Ralf started his career within the ocean energy team of Voith Hydro. He completed his Ph.D. in 2012 at the Universität Siegen and joined SCHOTTEL. Since then, he is working on tidal energy related issues – including turbine R&D, testing and multiple deployments of the SCHOTTEL Instream Turbine in Europe, Asia and North America. Since 2019 Ralf is the Managing Director of SCHOTTEL HYDRO, since May 2023 Commercial Director of SCHOTTEL Marine Technologies. Beyond this, Ralf is a member of the IEC TC 114 developing standards for ocean energy technologies.
In his free time, the 45-year-old spends time with wife and two children, enjoys outdoor activities, watches matches of VfB Stuttgart and plays Indiaca from time to time, a sport in which he has twice been world champion.
